The REC is represented in Serbia through the country office in Belgrade and four ( 4 ) project offices ( Serbia ).

History of REC CO Serbia

The Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia signed the REC Charter in June 1996, and therefore it has acknowledged the aims and the status of this organization in Serbia. The REC is officially present in Serbia since April 1997, while the Office in Serbia exists since May 1998. Until 2008 it operated according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2001 by the REC and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the FR Yugoslavia (now Serbia) and  following the Contract on business and technical cooperation signed with the Department of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, which stated priorities of joint cooperation.

Legal status

Currently, REC CO Serbia is functioning based on the Agreement on legal statuse of the REC in Serbia, approved by the Govenrnemtn of Serbia and signed on June 27 2008 in Szentendre, which confirms the statuse of the REC as an international organization with full capacity to implement REC programs and activities.

Mission of REC RS

REC RS follows the REC’s general mission to assist in solving environmental problems, by providing various services, encouraging cooperation among relevant environmental stakeholders (including national and local governments, businesses, non-governmental organisations and citizens), supporting free exchange of information and promoting public participation in environmental decision making.

Vision of the REC RS

REC RS envisions a democratic, developed, and environmentally sustainable society for Serbia  as an integral part of Europe.

Strategic Goals of REC RS

REC RS follows strategic goals of REC, taking into account specific circumstances of Serbia  as pre-accession country to EU. REC RS strategic goals are:

  • to provide high quality, innovative, demand driven services to stakeholders, aiming at the highest benefit for Serbia and global environment, and implementing sustainable development in practice;
  • to provide a neutral platform for dialogue, networking and cooperation among stakeholders and partners, at and between national and local levels;
  • to maintain the independent character of the organization through successful model of governance, international legal status in Serbia, diversified funding and quality of work;
  • to continue proactive development of the organization to be able to deliver its mission in a rapidly changing context of political, social and economic reconstruction in Serbia.
  • Topic Areas

    The focus of REC RS is the environmental service excelence. REC RS has developed high expertise in various fields of environmental services ( TOPIC AREAS ) and gathers a large team of prominent environmental experts.

  • REC RS has implemented a high number of environmental projects oriented at providing expert assistance, designing strategic documents and building capacities with participation of relevant stakeholder groups.
