LEAP survey starts PDF Print E-mail

ImageThe Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), CO Serbia has announced the launch of the Environment Survey within the project “Local Environmental Action Planning for Sustainability” supported by Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).

LEAP questionnaires were distributed to households in beneficiary municipalities of Trstenik, Velika Plana, Vrnjacka Banja and Cuprija.

The survey will cover environmental issues and the objective of the survey is to obtain feedback from residents from partner municipalities Trstenik, Velika Plana, Vrnjacka Banja and Cuprija in order to determine what environmental problems the public considered to be most dangerous to human health, ecosystems, and their quality of life and will assess the problems in the state of environment in each of beneficiary municipalities and create statistically significant environment indicators.

The environmental survey will:

Provide a clear and shared analysis of the key environmental issues facing the community;
Provide information about the environmental impacts from the activities of public and private institutions, and individuals, and what these institutions and individuals are doing (or not doing) to improve and protect the environment;
Establish a “baseline” of environmental conditions from which to measure the effectiveness of actions taken to improve them;
Raise public awareness of environmental issues, and potentially leads toward engaging citizens in improving the environment.

The research team began delivering questionnaires via PTT in December, and the preliminary results are expected in February 2009.
