ImageRegional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) organized, together with Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning a roundtable meeting for institutions involved in access to justice in Serbia. The roundtable took place in Belgrade Art Hotel, on 22th December.

The roundtable meeting was held in the framework of the project  “Capacity Building to Put the Aarhus Convention into Action and Support Development of PRTR Systems in South and Eastern European Countries“ funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and by the German Federal Environment Agency with means of the Advisory Assistance Programme for Environmental Protection in the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The goal of this roundtable was to bring together for a dialogue the institutions and stakeholders (the judiciary, authorities, legal experts  and civil society) in charge for or involved in access to justice in Serbia order to:
 To raise awareness about the Aarhus Convention and its key requirements for access to justice
 To discuss the major difficulties and gaps in implementation of the third pillar of  the Aarhus Convention and related national legislation
 To identify the major barriers to access to justice and discuss the possible removal or reduction of these barriers
 To propose recommendations to improve the current access to justice situation
